The Search for the Next Dean of Oxford College

Emory University seeks a strategic and engaged academic leader to serve as the dean of Oxford College, one of the university’s nine divisions and two undergraduate colleges. Located on Emory’s original 354-acre campus in Oxford, Georgia, it is home to 975 students who complete the first two years of their bachelor’s curriculum there before continuing on Emory’s Atlanta campus to complete their degrees.

The dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of Oxford College, with the overall responsibility for defining its strategic priorities and providing the resources and management needed to pursue them. This individual provides leadership for the campus in its entirety, leveraging the scale of a small college campus and the resources of a major research university.

The next dean will further develop, implement, and advance a well-defined mission and vision as well as goals for Oxford College and engage effectively with all stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This individual also will lead successful fundraising efforts to support Oxford and its future. Demonstrated management skills, the ability to lead and support talented faculty and staff, a student-centered approach, and an aptitude for fundraising are key qualifications for the next dean as well as academic credentials and a record of scholarly achievement that qualify them for appointment as a full professor with tenure. Commitment to diversity and the ability to collaborate productively with a range of constituencies are essential, as is the ability to build and strengthen relationships between the college and the surrounding communities of Oxford, Covington, and Newton County.

With its strong student-centered approach and engaged living and learning community, Oxford is well-positioned to play a significant role in the Student Flourishing initiative that is part of Emory’s exciting vision for the future. The next dean will have the opportunity to further realize Oxford’s potential as a leader in undergraduate education and enhance its reputation as a destination for students seeking a unique liberal arts education in a compelling living and learning community.
